Empowering Insights: How SGA Enabled a European Client in Tracking & Analyzing Telco Innovative Services

TMT research and advisory firm case study

BUSINESS SITUATION

A leading Europe-based TMT research and advisory firm needed help with tracking and analyzing new and innovative telco service launches across the globe. A relevant tracker, developed by the company, was shared with SGA to be updated on a regular basis. For this, SGA assigned a set of analysts, who worked in close collaboration with the client’s Strategies team. Secondary research was carried out monthly to track and analyze the latest developments. The tracker helps to determine innovative and replicable use cases within various telco service segments.

SGA STRATEGIC APPROACH

  • SGA developed a research methodology, in consultation with the client, to update the tracker monthly.
  • SGA analysts searched for new fixed and mobile services and updates of existing services launched by operators through secondary research.
  • The tracker covers around 70–100 announcements monthly but this could vary depending upon the number of stories available through secondary research.
  • The service launch announcements are selected based on two criteria – uniqueness of the services in each market and/or their mass market appeal.
  • The announcements being selected should either involve a service that is the first of its kind in the given market or it should be about fast-evolving services of customer interests (e.g., IoT and smart home solutions).

ENGAGEMENT

SGA uses an evolving set of keywords on a subscription database to capture raw data in text format, which is then transferred to an excel file for further processing and the final analysis is presented in a PPT. At the end of each stage, interim drafts are shared with the client for feedback and suggestions for the next stage.

BENEFITS & OUTCOME

The key deliverables are an Excel file with charts and tables and a PPT file analyzing various trends. The main analysis is based on the following two parameters:

  • Significance: Services score high on this parameter if they influence either domestic market, regional market, or the global market.
  • Uniqueness: Services score high on this parameter if they are unique on their own merits, or if they add a unique dimension to already existing services.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

SGA’s competence in secondary market research and the team’s ability to devise a well-defined research methodology for the product proved crucial in developing an all-around update process and maintaining the tracker on a long-term basis.
