As per SG Analytics global media technology survey highlights, (a) unification of content supply chain to lower total cost of ownership (TCO), (b) IP and software-defined workflow migration to enhance operational efficiencies, and (c)automation and orchestration to reduce human capital dependencies (technical debt) are the top three priorities for 42% of hyper content owners and distributors (broadcasters and digital service providers1) in the next 18-24 months. Furthermore, fragmentation and complexities across the content supply chain continue to rise for both content owners and distributors worldwide, attributed to the evolution of newer consumption touch points (non-linear TV & video, FAST, enterprise video, and video podcast).
Traditionally, to support these newer touch points enterprises have embarked on loosely coupled third-party multi-generation infrastructure and technology roadmap. This has not only resulted in an increase in professional services, system integration (SI) and operational maintenance & support TCO but also has intensified the need for API-driven data exchange across multiple systems. As margins come under pressure and optimal utilization of these fragmented multi-generation ICT systems and workflows become crucial, paving the way towards embracing a horizontally integrated monitoring ecosystem. In June 2024, Bridge Technologies partnered with Zabbix to assist broadcasters and digital service providers to enrich their ICT monitoring capabilities across the value chain (infrastructure, network, and media workflows).
Universal Monitoring as a Service (UMaaS) is essential for premium QoS anywhere, everywhere.
Historically, broadcasters and digital service providers followed a multi-faceted in-house and third-party technology procurement strategy, which included:
These tailored and siloed deployments have not only exponentially accelerated the IT operational inefficiencies but also the technical debt (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics highlighted that shortage of IT talent to reach 1.2mn by 2026 in the US alone). Also, managing this multi-dimensional infrastructure and workflows is becoming cumbersome not just due to a shortage of resources (i.e. 29% of IT workers surveyed plan to stay with their current employer for the next 12 months) but also rising cost of human capital driven processes (e.g. the average IT consulting wages are stipulated to increase by 5.2% globally). Bridge Technologies (“Bridge”) has been an early mover into the broadcast TV & video (including internal & shared systems) monitoring space with its flagship product VB10 (browser-based user interface) launched almost a couple of decades back. Bridge’s open API-driven third-party data integration (easing storage, retrieval, exchange, and benchmarking) road-map compliments Zabbix’s open-source infrastructure (servers), network (switches and routers), and IT management (ITSM) monitoring capabilities. The collaboration aims to yield the following benefits, especially targeted toward tier-I and tier-II broadcasters and digital service providers as of today:
Therefore, as technical debt (availability of resources to maintain and upgrade multi-generation systems) and media ICT services TCO continue to surge, Universal Monitoring as a Service ecosystem providing integrated, scalable, and cost-effective value proposition across the media value chain is projected to witness a strong adoption curve. Although open API centric seamlessly integrated ecosystems assisting in ease of data access is pivotal, building premium offerings such as predictive analytics, DIY self-service, and AI-enabled fault diagnosis will be a key differentiator.
